In the May 23 special election for the 9th Assembly District, Christine Pellegrino, public school teacher, parent, and first-time candidate, flipped the district.

This is a big victory.

On Nov. 8, Trump won the 9th Assembly district with 60% of the vote.

On May 23, Christine won with 60% of the vote.

And with her victory, Christine brings the number of women serving in the Assembly to 45, a record high out of 150 total Assembly members.

The 9th Assembly District is on Long Island’s South Shore and includes: Babylon, North Babylon, West Babylon, West Bay Shore, Brightwaters, South Farmingdale, Massapequa, Massapequa Park, East Massapequa, West Islip, Gilgo Beach, and Oak Beach.

The district has a 13-point Republican registration advantage. Christine is the first Democrat to hold this seat.

By bringing together the organizing power of the labor movement and the New York State United Teachers, the passion of voters ready for a new type of leadership, and the commitment to a progressive agenda, Christine showed us: Anything is possible.

Onwards with and for New York women.
