What a night!
There were huge Democratic victories for women in Nassau County, including Laura Curran for Nassau County Executive, Laura Gillen for Hempstead Town Supervisor, Sylvia Cabana for Hempstead Town Clerk, and Judi Bosworth for North Hempstead Town Supervisor.
In Suffolk County, Laura Jens-Smith beat the 4-term Republican incumbent in the race for Riverhead Town Supervisor. And she’ll be joined by first-time candidate Catherine Kent on the Town Council.
In Dutchess County, first-time candidate Robin Lois challenged and beat the Republican incumbent. This is a huge county-wide victory for the Dutchess County Democratic Committee and its chair, Elisa Sumner.
In Westchester County, Alice Roker won election to the Yorktown Town Council.
In Rensselaer County, Democrats took back a majority on the Troy City Council with the election of first-time candidate Colleen Murtagh Paratore.
And in Saratoga, first-time candidate Tara Gaston is a new Saratoga County Supervisor.
We’re still tallying up all the victories of the 140 candidates Eleanor’s Legacy invested in. We’ll keep you posted.
And we want to thank all of the women who ran as candidates, worked as campaign managers, or took the time to volunteer for a pro-choice Democratic woman. You made a difference.
